Life Is Hard

Especially when you're a 14 year old girl. This has been a tough year for Morgan so far. Last night, things got even tougher. She got a phone call that a boy in her class committed suicide. I didn't personally know the boy, but she does. She considered him a friend. In fact, on Tuesdays & Thursdays, they had every class together. Today when they went to school, the freshman didn't have class. The principal talked to all the freshman first thing in the morning, to let everyone know what exactly happened (so there wouldn't be rumors flying) and then the kids were asked to stay in the commons area where they could console each other and where counselors and teachers were there to talk to them. Morgan and a couple of her friends came home at lunch time. She's done a lot of crying....and talking. Eric and I have been encouraging her to keep talking. The boy shot himself in the head with a 44. So please, say a prayer for Miles, his family and for all the kids his death has so deeply affected. Life is certainly not easy.

That is very tough for the kids--and even worse for the parents. We have friends whose 8th grade daughter attempted suicide a year or so ago, but luckily she didn't succeed. I'm sure the school is making sure the kids know help is available, but so many don't feel that there is any hope. :-(

How awful. It's frightening how often this happens. I know schools are doing a much better job now than when we were younger, keeping things out in the open and encouraging them to talk, rather than hiding and shaming.

I know Morgan's had a rough time lately, tell her I'm thinking of her.
