The girls and I just returned home from a very quick trip to IL. The only part that wasn't quick was the 12 hours drive both ways. The things you do for family! Luckily the girls had Friday off, and only had one super important class on Thursday. So, they had an extra long weekend. We got to IL Thursday evening and no one was home. My parents didn't know we were coming, so I didn't expect them to be there. We unpacked our stuff and were just settling in when I heard their garage door open (I was sneaky, parked my Durango on the street between their yard and their neighbors). Morgan and I ran around turning off lights (Ashley was already in the shower) and hid around the corner in the kitchen. The door opened, a light switched on, we heard footsteps coming up the stairs. We jumped out and yelled SURPRISE! We almost gave my poor dad a heart attack! That and he almost wet himself! We didn't do much while there really, and we couldn't enjoy the weather, but we had fun. Saturday we surprised the folks again by taking them out to lunch, where about 25 of our close family and friends were waiting. They were pretty wound up, so we went across the street after lunch and tried out the martini bar (keep in mind, we didn't have "lunch" until 2:00 p.m.). Then we decided we'd go back to their hometown and go have dinner at a little bar there. Mom fell asleep on the way there, but we managed to perk her back up after a couple glasses of water. Unfortunately having too much fun all day Saturday made for a very long drive home on Sunday. At least Ashley drives now and she's much better at it than she was only a few months ago!
So, Mom & Dad, Happy 45th Anniversary. Can't wait to celebrate the 50th!
