It's Ironic, Really....
When the hubby and I got married (going on 18 years ago), I had never moved away from family and friends. True, I moved once in 5th grade to the country, but not all that far. Seven months after I got married (and being 4 months pregnant) the hubby got a promotion along with a transfer and we moved to Iowa. The poor guy would work 2 weeks on A shift the 2 weeks on B shift. It didn't matter when he worked, if I needed to go to the grocery store or run errands, I'd wake him up and make him take me. Eight months later, we moved to the state of Washington. Again, I wanted him to drive me around. He finally told me I needed to start driving myself so I could figure things out (which was a good thing, since he worked nights and I worked during the day). Many years later, I thought of this. Sunday, the hubby was out of town and Teen #2 had a volleyball tournament. It was in Aurora, which is about 90 some miles south of here. I printed out the directions from mapquest and headed out at 6 a.m. Sunday morning. As I'm driving, and Teen #2 is sleeping, I thought to myself, it's just ironic, 17 years ago I'd have totally panicked and wouldn't know what to do. Today I just drive....I have to. It's part of my "mom duties" and part of my life. I guess you could say I've grown up a little bit!

A Valtentine's Day to Remember
Or not! Needless to say, there wasn't much romantic about the day! I went to work (at least I wore a red suit and was complimented), then home long enough to eat lunch and change, then I was off to the mountains for Teen #2's basketball game. I left early enough so I could stop in Estes Park's main street to get caramel corn and salt water taffy before going to the game. Hey, if I'm going to drive 50 miles up the mountain, I might as well make it worth the trip! Anyway, after sitting through another painful loss, I headed back down the mountain with a stop in Loveland at their Target. Meanwhile, the hubby had went from work, to home, to the high school girls basketball game to listen to Teen #1 sing the National Anthem with her choir. He has been gone for her 2 choir concerts, so he's never heard them sing. Even though she left after that with her boyfriend and some other friends for their Valentine's night out, he stayed for the first half of the game because our HS girls are so good and he hadn't seen them play yet. By time I got home (after waiting 20 minutes for the bus at the MS), it was nearly 9:00. The hubby was on the phone with his sister, and then tried to unwind from some stress with computer golf. I gave him a card....he was mad, he said he thought we weren't doing anything, which included cards. We did kiss, say I love you and goodnight. And this is romance, after 17.5 years of marriage!

I Needed That
Last week we had a fairly uneventful week due to a sick teen one day and a game cancellation another day. It's a good thing, the following in my schedule this week:
Monday - basketball game 4 miles north of us, followed by volleyball practice 22 miles south.
Tuesday - I work, then have to go to a make up basketball game up in the mountains (probably about 50 miles or so).
Wednesday - Another (and last) basketball game at home, then volleyball practice 22 miles south.
Thursday - I work
Friday - Family Fun Night at the Middle School....yes, I am scheduled to work.
Saturday, Sunday & Monday - a 3 day volleyball tournament. At least this one is in the town 6 miles south of us and we'll be able to get a decent nights sleep!
So, yes, it is a good thing last week was fairly uneventful, this week is making up for it!

Did You Know.....
...that I'm a baby? Yep, this morning Teen #1 wanted me to run to the store and buy her some imodium....I gave her money and told her she could stop on the way to school and get it herself. But seriously, do you know how many people in our hometown *know* her???? Seriously, she couldn't possibly buy it herself, that's out of the question. As I stormed out of the house she yells out the door, "look who's being a baby now!" Hrumph! What does she know?

Shame on Me
Ever had one of those days when you wonder why you were so excited to have kids? Remember that wonderful feeling you had when you found out you were pregnant and you couldn't wait to tell everyone? And then they grow up and become teenagers and you sometimes don't really like them? Today is one of those days. Teen #2 was supposed to have a basketball game....for some reason, the other school cancelled. She called to tell me and said she was walking to the high school to work out. She just called and this is what was said:
Teen #2: Can I go to Chelsea's house?
Me: I thought you were going to work out.
Teen #2: I have practice almost every night of the week, why do I have to work out?
Me: I guess you don't....you can go to Chelsea's until your sister is done with wrestling, then come home with her for dinner.
Teen #2: But what if I don't go to Chelsea's house until wrestling is almost done?
Me: Why wouldn't you go now?
Teen #2: She asked me to come over, but now I'm trying to call her back and she's not answering.
Me: Well, if she doesn't call you back until wrestling is almost over, you can't go, you can come home for dinner.
Teen #2: But I never get to see my friends anymore! Between volleyball and basketball I don't get to spend any time with them!
Me: Didn't we talk about that before you tried out for volleyball?
Teen #2: Why can't I just go to Cheslea's house?
Me: You can, until your sister is done with wrestling.
Teen #2: Whatever.....click
And I wonder why I have gray hair!

If it's Not One Thing....
....it's another! Why is it always something?? The youngest injured her knee last Monday. All is fine, it's just a nice, big bruise. She didn't play basketball the rest of the week, letting it heal for her volleyball tournament she had yesterday. All was great, she played good volleyball, and was all set for her basketball game today. She's been up off and on since 11 p.m. last night visiting the bathroom. I think it was something she ate. I'm hoping it'll work it's way out of her system and she'll make it to school before lunch! When she misses sports, you know she's sick!

A "No List" Day
No time for lists yesterday, it was a "try and just get something done" day! I started out by not even working....got my co-worker to sub for me. Reason being, had to take the youngest to the Urgent Care for an x-ray. We actually got right into Urgent Care, what took longest was the wait for the x-ray. Nothing broken, only a deep bruise on the knee cap, but then we had to go to the pharmacy and get a knee brace and some more ibuprofen. We finally got wise and bought our own set of crutches. They cost $20 to rent, and $40 to buy. We know we'll need them again. After that I took her back to school, went home and got some laundry done, but then had to pick up the oldest at school by 2:15 to take her to a counselling appointment. Got back to town after 4:00, picked up the youngest, who was watching basketball practice, and went home. Was actually planning on making supper, but the youngest called her dad and asked if we could go out to dinner and he's a big softie for daughters on crutches, so he said yes. By time we got home from dinner, my day was just about over, although I managed to get in a couple more loads of laundry. No list today either, the hubby just wants me to get through a couple of bank statements and he'll be happy!
