Well, the girls and I leave bright and early tomorrow morning for Illinois. Just love driving all day.....NOT! But you gotta do what you gotta do. Going back for my nephew's graduation party. He graduated this past Sunday, but his party is this weekend. Eric isn't going....kind of makes me sad that he'd rather stay home and play in a golf tournament than go for Adam's party. We started dating shortly after Adam was born, so he's been Uncle Eric all of Adam's life.
We'll be back next Tuesday....not that anyone has visited here lately, but just in case you do!

What's the Problem??
I'm wondering what is the problem today. The high schoolers (the freshman, soph's and jr's anyway) have a tradition that on the last day of school they pummel each other and whoever is in the way with water balloons. This year they decided to wait at the middle school for the 8th graders. I was sitting there, watching the whole thing. They didn't single out anyone, just started throwing water balloons at anyone. Of course my darling youngest yelled at her sister, "Throw one at me!!"...anyway....some of the teachers came out and yelled at the HS kids, told them to get off school grounds (seriously, I've never seen this lady, don't know what she teachers and I've had kids there for 6 years now) even tho they were actually in the street while throwing them. I didn't see any of the kids running scared, in fact most of them just walked to their bus and ignored the HS kids. One of the girls who was driving a truck full of kids actually got a ticket! I guess maybe I've never grown up, I didn't see the harm in it....it was just good fun. Of course, I still don't see the problem in T.P.'ing either!
Safety Update
Read about the high schools safety problems. Better explained in the newspaper than what my kids have told me! There are these huge wooden beams that support the curved roof of the pool and gym....They've been covered in sheet metal for years. For some reason, some of the sheet metal was taken off, and the wood was rotting. They had 3 different engineers come in and look, and they said they could collapse if not fixed soon. So any rooms (like the commons area) that are adjacent to the gym and/or pool can not be used until this is fixed. I'm still hoping it's fixed before school is supposed to start next fall!

And the Walls Came Tumbling Down
Okay, so maybe the walls didn't tumble down, but in any case, our high school as been deemed "unsafe" so the students will get out of school a week early (this Friday). Ashley isn't sure whether to be excited or freaked out. They found this out Monday, and teachers and students alike are scrambling to finish up projects. Some teachers are just skipping final exams. I guess there is a wall or two by the gym and pool (and the commons area, which was just remodeled last year) that isn't sturdy, so our seniors can't even graduate in their own school, which usually takes place in the gym. They are having graduation at UNC. I have a feeling things will be pretty hectic. This throws off my schedule too! I'm just hoping that they don't tell me next fall that the high school students will be starting school late because they haven't finished fixing it!

Come On Mother Nature!!
Seriously, I am gonna whup that woman's butt! I am so sick of this weather, one beautiful day here, one crappy day there. Today Morgan has a double header....the wind is blowing....hang on, let me check....24 mph! Yea, it's 73 degrees out, but doesn't feel like it. What fun to sit outside and be whipped by winds, I can just imagine having to play ball in it. I'm ready for summer.

I Get It Now!
I'm finally catching on....the reason things like FedEx, UPS and the likes cost so much is the packaging! Ashley's phone came....the box is way bigger than it needs to be for a small little phone. It had those plastic air "pillows" in it. That's really all that was in there, a little paperwork, a tiny phone and a bunch of packaging to keep it all safe. Whatever.....seems wasteful to me!
Do I look like an idiot??
Last Friday Ashley and I went to the Verizon store. Her phone, which she's had for about a year, wouldn't hold a charge. We'd already been there a month ago, and they sold us a new battery for it. Still wasn't holding a charge very well and it was getting irritating to her and me, since I could never get ahold of her. So we go into the store and tell the lady that we probably needed to buy a new phone. She checks our contract and she has another guy (who actually sold me the phone and contract last year) come out and tell me that since the warranty is expired (imagine this, it expired 2 days before!) and since we weren't due for an upgrade yet, they could sell us the same phone for $50 or we could buy a different one for retail. We looked at retail prices. Anywhere from $150 to $300!!!! So because we are already Verizon customers, we were going to be screwed! We left, check at 2 different stores, were told basically the same thing (and that Verizon gets you that way) and left the mall pretty frustrated. Called up Eric to tell him.....he asked if I told the Verizon guy that it was "bleeping bull***t" and I said no....but I would have liked too. So he called the Verizon 800 number and talked to a gal there. Said he never even had to get nasty. She told him all the stores are independent dealers and they actually make their money selling phones at retail price. So she said she'd send us a new phone, same type, for free....not even charge the shipping costs since we'd been fed a line of crap. Guess what just came right as I started typing?? That's right, a new phone. Ashley will be so happy when she gets home!

Random Thoughts
Didn't really have one particular thing to talk about today. But just a few things have crossed my mind. One is Morgan....she's had a busy week. Tuesday they had an all conference (I guess that's what it was) track meet....12 schools all together. She did the long jump for the first time, after only practicing it for a week. She jumped over 25 feet. She told me she didn't place, but was happy with her jump. The next day she found out she did place....first no less! She has the ribbon to prove it! :) Yesterday the school voted for student council officers. She was running for president. She didn't win.....she was fine with that. As the person with the 2nd most votes, she is now head of "executive board" next year....which I guess does all the dances and extra curricular activities. She's exctied.
Ashley's been kind of moody lately. Not sure what's going on. I *think* she and Kevin are back together, but I'm afraid to ask....might get yelled at! Her phone is a piece of $#!&, just bought a new battery for it a month ago and it still won't hold a charge. That makes her mad, and irritates me when I can't get ahold of her. So we are going to buy a new one today after school.
Eric came home from a business trip last night. I think he felt bad, Ashley left, Morgan was at a friends and I had bunko. Sorry dear, I'll be home tonight.
And me....well it's life as usual....running errands, going to track meets and softball stuff, doing laundry (the never ending job) and trying to keep peace in the house! Eric mentioned this morning the shower needed cleaning....guess I'll take the hint and clean it today. If it'll make him happy...I'm all for it!
Sorry this is boring, but nothing struck me as an urgent blogging interest!

Just that type of day
Yesterday it got up to 80 degrees. At Morgan's track meet last night, I was hot, then cool, then cold. The winds kicked up, the clouds rolled in and the crappy weather came back. By time we returned home, it had rained (and hailed west and south of us!). Today it's just drizzly and gray. I went to work out, it's supposed to energize you, right? Not today....I came home, read the paper, folded some laundry, then layed down on the couch and slept for 2.5 hours!!!!! Oops.....glad I didn't have anything important to do!

40 and forgetful
After I worked out today, I headed to Target. I need a new king size blanket for my bed.....just the sheet and comforter weren't enough and I was a bit cold last night. So while at Target I bought dog food, king size pillows for the shams, another set of pillow cases for the pillows that are currently in the shams, some Weight Watchers candy, paper plates, Puffs....stuff like that. Came home and jumped on the computer to catch up and while reading e-mails, it suddenly dawned on me....I forgot to buy the blanket. ARGGGGGGGGH!

I'm Excited
Isn't it funny, as we age, weird and little things excite us. The purchase of a new vaccum cleaner, blender, even a new scent of Downey. Yesterday my new bed came....it's beautiful! It's HUGE! I kept telling my kids to come and look at it. Made them look at it as soon as the delivery guys set it up. Look at it when I got the sheets on. Look again when I had it completely made. I'm pretty sure they think I'm nuts by now. I excitedly followed hubby into the bedroom when he got home from his business trip to see his reaction. He liked it. Not nearly as excited as I was, but he's a man afterall. I slept like a rock. It's a keeper.

Saving $$$
I found out last Friday that my new bed was in. I'm having it delivered this Friday. I've been searching inbetween for new bedding, since we're going from a queen to a king. I never realized how picky I was. I looked at Sears (in both Ft. Collins and Greeley mall), JC Penney's (same malls), Dillards, Foley's, Mervyn's, Bed, Bath & Beyond (again, both towns) and Kohl's. Monday I bought a comforter, sheets, etc. at Dillards. I thought they were on sale. After it was all rung up, for over $500....I was a bit taken aback. After I got it home, I realized I wasn't even sure I liked it, let alone pay that much money for it. I took it back today. I went back to Kohl's (for like the 100th time!) and looked again. I narrowed it down to 2....one that was mostly yellow and one that was more shades of reds. While the yellow one was very springy and pretty, I rationalized that I have a black dog who, although she sleeps on a blanket, does sleep on our bed and another black dog who will sneak up on our bed when no one is looking. I also looked at the price difference. So I went with the red one, which happened to be a "bed in a bag", so the sheets and everything came with it, grabbed a mattress pad and ended up paying less than $100 for it all!!!! Thanks to Kohl's nice sales and the 15% discount I had, I am more than thrilled. Even if it isn't exactly what I wanted (and frankly, I'm not sure I even knew what I wanted), it definately looked better after I saved that much money!

HOLY COW! I'm busy!!!
I have been so busy, I've barely had time to breathe....well, okay, I can breathe, but with an elevated heart rate! Here's a run down....
April 28: Worked and got excited for my bday....my coworker put up an "over the hill" banner with balloons, gave me a "birthday girl" ribbon to wear and a tiara (which I *did* wear at work all day) and the new dark chocolate M&M's in a jar that said "Lisa's Hot Flash Pills". She got me so revved up, I called it my "birthday eve" all day/night.
April 29: My 40th bday. I love birthdays....each year is another gift. My youngest brought me breakfast in bed....awwww. My parents took me out to breakfast.....my husband took half a day off. We were going to go golfing, but it snowed, so scrap that plan. We went to Fort Collins instead, shopping and goofing around, off to Tres Margarita's for an early supper and a few drinks, to our country club for a couple of drinks and then "back home" for my birthday presents. It was really to a surprise party for me. What a riot! Unfortunately, I drank too much and felt as if I'd died the next day, but the party itself, GREAT! By the way, I wore the tiara all day....that's one way to insure attention!
April 30: Hung over....'nuff said. Well, except my oldest went to Prom that night, she looked lovely.
May 1: Church, home for breakfast and had friends out for supper. Still feeling a bit sluggish from my hangover. Must have been a really good party.
May 2: Daughter has pink eye, had to take her to the doctor. Went to 6 different pharmacies looking for one of the prescriptions the doctor gave her. Finally Walgreen's suggested an OTC that was the same, except in a lower dosage. Also shopped for new bedding to go with my new bed I'm getting Friday. Am exhausted by time I got home at 5:00, but needed to do laundry.
May 3: I had to work today.....Morgan has a track meet and a softball game today. I am supposed to go to a thing tonight to hear about being a "medical transcriptionist"...Eric has decided I need to make more money. I'm tired just thinking about this.
Now you know why I haven't written anything lately.....life just got in the way. Turning 40 is great, it's just recovering from turning 40 that hurts!
